Diego, the 100-year-old turtle who saved his species by fathering 800 kids, has retired to his native Galapagos island

A 100 years aged Galapagos tortoise named Diego has given help in birth about 800 baby tortoises on his whole life, as Daily Mail reports. Also, it has been reported that there are no more Hood Island Giant Tortoises on Galapagos Island except Diego. However, luckily, Diego, who always loves to produce new kids, has saved this species from extinction.

Hood Island Giant Tortoise is a different kind of tortoise. The tortoise Diego, who loves reproducing, met at the San Diego Zoo. This species of Tortoises were becoming extinct, so biologists have thought to get help from Diego to achieve their goal of preserving this animal species. Finally, Diego completed the plan given by the biologist to him from giving birth to more than 800 little ones.

As there was a plan to save Hood Island Giant Tortoises, 2000 new baby tortoises were released into the Island Galapagos. Marvelously, out of those 2000 babies, 40% were Diego’s kids.
